Apple is said to be developing a small wearable AI pin that could reach customers in 2027, according to The Information. The device is still in early development so the possibility of it launching isn’t confirmed as of yet. The report describes a product that Apple teams are testing while the company reworks Siri and its wider AI tools.
The pin takes a thin, flat, circular form close to the size of an AirTag, except its a little thicker. It uses an aluminium and glass shell. Two cameras are placed on the front, one standard and one wide angle, designed to capture photos and videos around the wearer. Three microphones listen to nearby sound, and a built in speaker plays audio.
A physical button runs along one edge, and the back uses magnetic inductive charging similar to Apple Watch. Engineers want wireless charging and everyday wear to feel familiar. The Information says there is no attachment method at present, though that could change later.
How Would The AI Pin Work Day To Day?
The reports seem to describe a device that can act on its own. Cameras, microphones, a speaker and a button allow use without another screen. That design means this device could work on quick interactions, spoken replies and short audio prompts – less screen interaction and overall time.
The software story relates to Siri, because Apple plans to launch a chatbot style Siri in iOS 27, according to Bloomberg, and The Information says the pin would likely run this new Siri. That places the wearable as a part of Apple’s wider AI ventures and plans following years of missed delivery targets.

It is not known right now whether Apple would sell the pin alone or sell it together with other products. The Information says it might pair with future smart glasses or work with AirPods. The hardware choices suggest independence first, with optional links later.
Apple also wants to speed up work to keep pace with OpenAI, which is working with Jony Ive on a small AI device due in 2026, according to The Information. That timeline puts pressure on Apple teams to move faster.
Why Is This Market Hard And What Does Apple Face?
AI wearables have struggled to win buyers in the past with The Information referencing Humane’s AI Pin as an example. Humane, founded by two former Apple employees, sold fewer than 10,000 units in 2024. The device faced quite a bit of criticism for its slow answers and weak battery life.
Humane later sold parts of the business to HP for $116 million after the enthusiasm for the tech began to go away. The market has little patience for products that promise hands free computing but fall short in daily use.
As mentioned, many early stage projects often stop before launch. Apple has time to tweak the idea and properly work on it, but success depends on the little (but impactful) things like battery life, speed and trust. Without those basics, even an innovative Apple design may struggle to find loyal customers.
