About Extend
Extend launched in 2017 after its founders, leaders in business to business payments and enterprise software, identified a gap between modern digital payments and the limited tools available to finance teams. Businesses wanted real time control, security, and data around card spend, but did not want to change banks, replace card programs, or adopt entirely new financial infrastructure.
From the start, Extend built a partner-first SaaS platform and software infrastructure layer that works with the cards, banks, processors, accounting platforms, and business systems companies already use. Overcoming this challenge required solving complex issues across card network connectivity, secure data exchange, virtual card issuance, accounting integration, compliance, resilience, and usability. Extend also had to earn the trust of financial institutions while remaining flexible across major card networks and bank partners. Rather than competing with banks, the company chose to work through them, enabling financial institutions to offer modern payment capabilities without rebuilding their core systems.
Today, Extend connects eligible Visa, Mastercard, and American Express commercial cards with platforms including Sage Intacct, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, QuickBooks, NetSuite, and SAP Concur. Businesses can issue virtual cards in seconds, set controls by vendor, budget, or project, and sync transactions with accounting and enterprise systems. The impact is measurable: thousands of businesses use Extend, the platform powers billions of dollars in transactions, and roughly half of commercial credit card holders can access Extend through participating banks and card programs.
Extend is also embedded in more than a dozen leading banks across the United States and Canada. Its model has delivered tangible customer value. Central Construction eliminated fraud entirely and reduced administrative costs by $21,000 annually using Extend virtual cards, without switching banks or overhauling its financial systems. By connecting card networks, financial institutions, and business software, Extend is helping make embedded finance more interoperable, practical, and accessible while raising expectations for flexible, data-rich, and integrated business payment software.
